Thanksgiving Harvest

Orange Fantasia Chard, Italian Chard, Icicle Radish
Sun Gold Cherry Tomatoes, Orange Bell Pepper
Cayanne Pepper and Ebony Eggplant

The fall heirloom garden is just beginning! All of the plants are so green and beautiful now with the slightly cooler temps. In the summer, many of the Mediterranean vegetables won't tolerate the heat and the intense Kihei sun. The tomatoes will grow and flower all year but many varieties won't produce fruit when the temps are above 85 degrees.

Several of the smaller tomato varieties started to fruit in October and the larger beefsteak type tomatoes started fruiting the last week of November. If you live in Kihei, now is a good time to plant tomatoes.

Eggplant will grow all year in Kihei but the best time to plant it is in the fall. If you want to grow the larger eggplants, Black Beauty and Ebony were easy to grow.

  1. Hi Jane, this looks like your first post on a new blog! How different your vegetable seasons are. You should add a link to your post over on Daphne's Dandelions to show off your harvest, make all us cooler climate gardeners drool. And what a treat to see my blog over there on your links - thanks! I hope to see more about your garden...

  2. What a pretty harvest. Michelle is right. We will drool over your harvests. All I've got left are greens and a few root vegetables. Soon I'll have snow.

Are your eggplants perennial or do you have to plant them every year?
